CageFS user interface is now part of CloudLinux LVE Manager. The plugin version will soon be deprecated.

CageFS, a virtualized file system and security feature of CloudLinux OS, provides users with a secure, isolated environment within a shared hosting server. The CageFS user interface (UI) was previously a separate plugin for managing user-specific file systems and security settings.

With recent updates to CloudLinux, the CageFS user interface has been integrated into the CloudLinux LVE Manager, an advanced tool that centralizes resource management and security features for CloudLinux OS. This integration allows users to manage both LVE (Lightweight Virtual Environment) and CageFS settings from the same interface, streamlining administration and improving the overall user experience.

Key Changes:

  1. CageFS UI Deprecation: The standalone CageFS plugin UI will soon be deprecated. This means that the previous method of managing CageFS through its separate interface will no longer be available in upcoming CloudLinux versions. Users must transition to the CloudLinux LVE Manager to access and control CageFS features.

  2. Integrated Management: The functionality of CageFS is now seamlessly incorporated into the CloudLinux LVE Manager. This central interface allows users to manage both LVE and CageFS settings without switching between different panels or tools.

  3. Unified Control Panel: The LVE Manager combines all the essential features of resource management, such as CPU, memory, I/O, and entry process limits, along with security features like CageFS, PHP Selector, and mod_lsapi. Administrators can efficiently manage security settings for isolated environments directly from this unified platform.

Key Features of CageFS in CloudLinux LVE Manager:

  • User Isolation:
CageFS ensures that each user on the server is confined to their own virtualized environment, preventing access to sensitive server files or other user environments.

  • Ease of Access:
With CageFS integrated into the LVE Manager, managing user isolation is easier than ever. Administrators can toggle CageFS settings and view usage statistics directly within the LVE interface.

  • Customization:
The LVE Manager provides options for customizing CageFS settings per user, including enabling or disabling CageFS and configuring file system limitations to further restrict or protect user environments.

  • Advanced Security:
By combining LVE and CageFS management, the CloudLinux LVE Manager provides an even more comprehensive security model, reducing the risks associated with shared hosting environments.

  • Centralized Monitoring:
With the integration, administrators can monitor both system resource usage and user-level activity, ensuring efficient resource allocation while maintaining isolation and security.

What to Expect Next:

  • Deprecation Timeline:
CloudLinux has announced that the standalone CageFS UI plugin will be deprecated in the upcoming versions. Existing users are encouraged to migrate to CloudLinux LVE Manager to continue managing their servers effectively.

  • Transition Steps:

    • Ensure that CloudLinux LVE Manager is installed and configured on your server.
    • Begin using the LVE Manager to configure and manage CageFS settings.
    • Familiarize yourself with the integrated UI, where CageFS settings are now found under the Security section of LVE Manager.
  • Documentation:
CloudLinux will provide updated documentation to guide users through the new interface and the process of managing CageFS settings within the LVE Manager.

Benefits of Migrating to the LVE Manager:

  1. Simplified UI:
The new centralized interface reduces complexity by consolidating multiple tools and features in one place.

  2. Improved Efficiency:
Administrators can manage both resource and security configurations more efficiently, reducing the time spent switching between tools.

  3. Future-Proof:
With the upcoming deprecation of the CageFS UI plugin, transitioning to the LVE Manager ensures long-term compatibility and access to future CloudLinux updates and features.
