CageFS is not automatically enabled for new users

If CageFS is not automatically enabled for new users on your system, you may need to configure it to do so. Here are steps you can take to ensure CageFS is enabled for new users:

  1. Check CageFS Configuration:

    • Verify that CageFS is properly configured on your server. Ensure that the settings related to automatic enabling for new users are correctly set.
  2. Edit CageFS Configuration:

    • Open the CageFS configuration file. This file is often located at /etc/cagefs/conf/cagefs.conf.

    • Look for any settings related to automatic enabling for new users. It may have an option like AUTOUPDATE_INI=no. If this is set to, you'll need to change it to yes.

    • Save the file after making the necessary changes.

  3. Reinitialize CageFS:

    • After making changes to the configuration, you'll need to reinitialize CageFS for the changes to take effect. You can do this using the following command:

      bash
    • cagefsctl --force-update
  1. Verify Automatic Enabling:

    • Create a new user and check if CageFS is automatically enabled for them. The new user's home directory should be placed in the CageFS jail.
  2. Check User Account Creation Process:

    • If you're using a control panel or a custom script to create new user accounts, make sure that it's configured to enable CageFS for new users during the account creation process.
  3. Review Documentation or Support:

    • Consult the CageFS documentation or contact your hosting provider's support team for specific guidance on enabling CageFS for new users in your specific environment.

Remember to test these changes in a controlled environment to ensure they work as expected before applying them in a production setting. Additionally, always maintain backups of critical data and configurations before making significant changes to your server's settings.
